Announcing the NEW BHP Blended Learning Curriculum
The Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) and Woodfords Family Services are pleased to announce the launch of the BHP Blended Learning Curriculum. Enrollment is open effective July 5, 2017, and Live Days will be offered beginning in August 2017. The Blended BHP course consists of 12 on-demand online modules, including pre/post-tests, and 7 hours of in-class training with a Certified BHP Instructor. This Blended BHP Training is available to all Provider agencies at no cost.
Staff are still required to have completed an OSHA compliant Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) training within the last 365 days and have current Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification. Online BBP training is valid. However, online-only CPR/First Aid is not valid for this requirement. Only Instructor-led or blended learning Child & Adult CPR/First Aid training is valid for BHP certification.
BHP Certificates will be effective on the date that individuals successfully complete all certification requirements as follows:
- Completed Blended BHP Training, which includes 12 on-demand online modules and 7 hours of live instruction with a Certified BHP Instructor (staff must complete all 12 online modules in order to be eligible to attend the live day)
- Completed online course evaluation (made available after attendance at the live day)
- Completed Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification
- Completed annual OSHA compliant Blood Borne Pathogen training
MaineCare regulations related to the required timeline for BHP and School-Based Behavioral Health Professional (SB-BHP) training remain unchanged. Staff are required to obtain Provisional BHP certification (Module 1) with 30 days of hire, and must obtain full BHP (35 hr.) or SB-BHP (28 hr.) certification within 1 year of hire. To be eligible for BHP or SB-BHP certification, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional educational requirements must be met to work in MaineCare Section 65.
Online BHP Module 1 Training
The BHP Module 1 Training is available online to DHHS Approved Provider Agency and School staff at no charge. Certified BHP or SB-BHP Instructors and assigned Agency/School Representatives may register staff for the BHP Module 1 Online Training by signing in to the Secure Portal and completing the electronic Add A Learner ETED form.

The BHP Training is required for all staff working in Children’s Behavioral Health Services under MaineCare Sections 28 RCS, 28 RCS Specialized, and 65 HCT. Additional requirements for BHP certification include Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification and completion of an OSHA compliant Blood Borne Pathogen training within the past year.
