Hearing Impairment

 

Definition

Hearing impairment is defined as an impairment in hearing whether permanent or fluctuating, that adversely affects the child's educational-performance but who is not included under the definition of deafness in Section VII.(2)(C) of this rule. [34 CFR 300.8(c)(5)]

Procedure for Determination.  All steps below are required.

  • An audiological and a medical evaluation are to be utilized as part of the multidisciplinary determination of eligibility under this criteria.
  • The IEP Team will determine if the impairment adversely affects the child's educational performance.
