A workshop series for parents and professionals supporting youth with special needs as they transition to adulthood. FREE workshop but advance registration is requested. Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books. Say the Word to End the Word

Spread the Word to End the Word is an ongoing effort by Special Olympics, Best Buddies and our supporters to inspire respect and acceptance through raising the consciousness of society about the R-word—retard(ed), and how hurtful words and disrespect can be toward people with intellectual disabilities. Created by youth, the campaign is intended to engage schools, organizations and communities to pledge their support at www.r-word.org and to promote the inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

World Autism Awareness Day

December 2007, the United Nations General Assembly declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), encouraging measures to raise awareness about autism and early diagnosis and early intervention.
