Woodfords Family Services
Therapeutic Foster Care

Woodfords provides therapeutic level foster care to children and youth from age 0 through 21 who are in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.  Our program focuses on the strengths of the child/youth and family.  Our philosophy supports family inclusion whenever possible.  We believe every child deserves the opportunity to live in a loving home and family.

The Therapeutic Foster Care Program at Woodfords Family Services was established in 1999 with a focus on quality foster care for children.  While Woodfords specializes in services to children who have developmental disabilities, including autism, Asperger’s, and mental retardation; we work with all children in therapeutic foster care including children with serious medical, behavioral and/or mental health issues.  Given their experiences, many foster children are found to have special needs and require an increased level of support, supervision and care.

Through the support of our trained, professional foster parents and the treatment team, children/youth are offered guidance with psychological, emotional, social, behavioral and learning issues.  The team’s primary goal is meeting the best interest of the child/youth while promoting family reunification and life skills growth.

Woodfords Foster Care Program provides support to Woodfords Foster Parents through case management, training, home visits, support groups, respite services and securing services in collaboration with multiple agencies.

Children are referred to Woodfords Foster Care Program by the Department of Health and Human Services.  The WFS Admissions Committee reviews referrals to determine if the child meets specific placement criteria.  The availability of openings in our foster homes is also considered.  Should the child meet the admissions criteria, Woodfords Foster Care Case managers work to match the child with the most appropriate available foster home placement.

Once a child has been placed with a Woodfords Family Services Therapeutic Foster Home, he or she is provided a Foster Care Case Manager who meets regularly with the child and foster parents to establish an individual service plan for the child.  The service plan strives to address the individual needs of each child and his or her family, as well as outlining appropriate services to address those needs.  Woodfords Foster Care Case Managers provide ongoing support to foster parents and the children placed with them, while promoting a loving, family atmosphere.
